City officials Friday ordered three downtown parking lots closed for allegedly charging $999 per parking spot during Saturday’s Detroit Lions playoff game at Ford Field, although a Wayne County Circuit Court judge later ordered the lots reopened.
Detroit police officers at about 8 a.m. posted yellow stickers at the lots at 1468 Randolph, 401 Gratiot and 461 Gratiot, proclaiming the lot operators’ licenses were suspended after city officials learned the operators were charging between $999 per parking spot during Saturday’s game against the Washington Commanders that’s scheduled for 8 p.m., said David Bell, director of the Detroit Buildings, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Department.
“Our people looked online and saw that these three lots were charging far above the rate schedule they submitted to us, which was $10 to $100 per space,” Bell said.
