Multiple federal, state and local agencies plan to participate in a large-scale training exercise in the Capital Region next week designed to prepare them to respond to a nuclear emergency.

The training will be concentrated around Albany International Airport, the Stratton Air National Guard Base and at fire departments in northern Saratoga County, but residents may see military and police activity around other parts Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga counties as well, according to the FBI.

In areas where the training is happening, residents may see participants wearing personal protective equipment “to simulate realistic conditions,” according to the FBI. There will also be an increased number of aircraft in the area from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Most of the training that may be visible to the public will happen Monday through Friday.
