This week, embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams is on partial leave, limiting his public schedule to ‘undergo routine medical tests’, fueling rumors.
“Over the last few days, Mayor Adams hasn’t been feeling his best,” Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabien Levy said in a statement.
The timing of his absence during a week of deportations and funding freezes has many jumping to conclusions.
Especially as President Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts intensify, with federal agents conducting raids throughout the city.
He has also been called for questioning by House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, who says they are investigating New York City’s handling of immigration law in relation to public safety.
Mayoral spokesperson Fabien Levy defended Adams’ right to privacy, saying, “Like every other New Yorker, Mayor Adams has a right to privacy when it comes to personal matters, but we will continue to communicate in the unlikely event he is unable to fully discharge his duties on any particular day.”
