Mexico is preparing to welcome its citizens residing in the U.S. if President-elect Donald Trump enacts his mass deportation promises.

However, it will not act as a “safe third country” for migrants from other nations, according to reports.

President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration “is prepared to work in coordination with federal, state, and local authorities in the face of possible mass deportations,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement to Bloomberg.

Newsweek has contacted the Trump campaign and Mexico’s government for comment via email outside of normal office hours. Trump has pledged to implement a slew of hardline immigration policies, including mass deportations, which are designed to crack down on illegal migration.
