The University of Michigan-Flint is restructuring its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts in response to recent federal policy changes.

Chancellor Laurence B. Alexander announced this week that the university’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion will now be known as the Wolverine Hub of Opportunity, Persistence, and Excellence—also called Wolverine HOPE.

Despite the name change, Alexander said no staff reductions will occur, though some positions will have revised titles and updated job descriptions.

“Wolverine HOPE will continue its focus on providing resources and opportunities that support student access and achievement, faculty collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging among all members of our university,” Alexander said in a statement.

The revamped office will remain the hub for student-focused initiatives and support services, including the Intercultural Center, the Center for Gender & Sexuality, and Educational Opportunity Initiatives.
